If a Jenn-Air oven won’t turn off, first make sure the cause is not a setting that keeps it on on purpose (a timed or delayed cook, Sabbath mode or a lock), then cancel the cycle from the panel, and if the oven still heats, switch it off at the breaker and leave it off. A wall oven that stays on after you press cancel or turn the knob is a safety problem, because the heating elements keep working with nobody cooking. This guide walks through the order of checks, what is safe to try, what the control codes on our site say about faulty keys and boards, and when to call a technician. It does not tell you to open the oven or touch its wiring.

Why won’t a Jenn-Air wall oven turn off?

There are three kinds of cause. The first is a setting: the oven is still running a timed or delayed cook, a self-clean cycle, or or a special mode such as a Sabbath mode, which some models offer and which can keep the oven running; the manual explains it for your model. The second is the keypad: a key that the control believes is pressed, or a panel that is not registering your cancel. The third is the control board or the relay that switches the heating elements, which can fail in the closed position so that the elements stay powered. Only the first two are things you can check yourself.

What should you do the moment the oven stays on?

  1. Press cancel or clear and, if your model has a knob or off key, turn it to off. Watch the display for a few seconds.
  2. Look for a timer, a cook time or a mode on the display. If a cycle is running, follow the manual to end it. A self-clean cycle keeps the door locked until the oven cools, so do not force the door.
  3. If the display is off but the oven still feels hot, it may simply be cooling down. A heavy oven stays warm for a long time, but if the elements glow or the heat keeps rising, treat it as still heating.
  4. If the elements still glow, or the oven keeps heating after you cancel, switch the oven’s circuit off at the breaker panel, standing on a dry floor.
  5. Leave the breaker off until a technician has inspected the oven.

If you see smoke or flames inside the oven, keep the door closed to starve the fire, switch the breaker off and call 911. Do not throw water into an oven.

Could a modes or lock setting be keeping the oven on?

Check the display before you assume a fault. A delayed start or timed bake will end the cooking on its own at the set time, which can look like a failure to turn off if you forgot the timer. A Sabbath mode, where your model has one, can keep the oven running, so check your manual for how to turn it off on your oven. A control lock can stop the panel from accepting a cancel press, and the manual explains how to unlock it. If the panel will not respond to any key, the keypad or the board may be at fault.

What do the codes on our site say about keys and boards?

If a code appears with the symptom, write it down. On our site the F2-E0 oven code is a keypad short circuit, which is a control panel problem and not an overheat. The F7-E0 range code is a stuck function key, which means the control believes a key is held down. Our F5-E0 page lists a watchdog circuit failure, and the F1-E0 page lists a control board EEPROM fault. Our guide to oven door lock codes separates lock faults from true heat faults. We do not say that any one of these codes means the oven will not turn off, only that they describe the kind of control faults a technician would check.

Is it safe to keep using an oven that will not turn off?

No. An oven that heats when it should be off can overheat the cabinets around it and is a fire risk. Switch the breaker off, do not use the oven and do not leave it switched on while you are out. If the oven is part of a double or combination unit, the other oven or microwave can share the same circuit, so ask the technician about it. A wall oven is hard-wired, so the breaker is the right way to isolate it. Do not try to reset the board by pulling it out, and do not open the panel above or beside the oven door.

When should you call a technician, and what will they check?

Call as soon as the oven has kept heating after a cancel, or when the panel does not respond. A technician will check the keypad, the control board and the relays that switch the elements, and confirm which part has failed before replacing it. Our Jenn-Air oven repair service covers wall ovens. For an older oven, our guide to oven repair or replace helps you weigh the decision, and how to maintain your oven covers care. We are an independent repair company, not a factory service arm. Tell us the model number, whether it is a single, double or combination oven, and what the display showed. Frequently asked questions
Why won’t my Jenn-Air oven turn off?
A running timer or special mode, a keypad that is not registering, or a control board or relay fault can all keep it on. Cancel from the panel, and if it still heats, switch the breaker off.
Is it safe to leave a Jenn-Air oven on if it will not turn off?
No. Switch off its circuit at the breaker and do not use it until a technician has checked it.
What does F2-E0 mean on a Jenn-Air oven?
On our site it is a keypad short circuit, which is a control panel fault and not an overheat.
Can I reset the oven control by cutting power?
If the oven kept heating when it should not, leave the breaker off and call a technician. Do not switch it back on to see whether the fault has cleared.
